"Shout out to Joe Budden... me and him was on Invasion Radio last night. Had a very very interesting discussion about the Internet and hip-hop. Didn't agree on everything, but we ended up cool. Got interesting after a few drinks. Some names got mentioned (in terms of sales) and, well look at Nelly's latest release... Even though LL wasn't known for "through-the-roof" sales, his last album was a brick. This is pretty crazy. Nelly just BOMBED. Either something is wrong with the musical content, or the industry is f*cked up. it's up to the fans. Dig?"
Yea, It Is what you think, a freestyle to Rihanna's Disturbia song
After reports surfaced last week claiming that hip-hop superstar Busta Rhymes was dropped from his label, Interscope Records, Busta gave Hot 97 a call and spoke to DJ Envy, confirming not only his departure from Interscope, but his new label deal.
The rapper’s sixth studio album Paper Trail drops September 30th featuring collaborations with Justin Timberlake, Usher, and Ludacris, among others.
Los Angeles, California Hip-Hop recording artist The Game issued a statement exclusively to AllHipHop.com earlier today regarding the tragic Friday night plane crash that critically injured former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM.
Barely three months after the release of his second solo album, Florida rapper Plies is already gearing up to release his third solo album before the end of the year.
According to LL Cool J himself his latest album Exit 13 Is being Bamboozled by none other than his label Def Jam, claiming they don't want him to sell, limiting his album distribution? Damn L lol take the L and move on :/

British vodka company 02 has apparently taken issue with Dr. Dre's release of a sparkling vodka thought to be similar to their own brand. In August, the legendary producer announced he would unveil both a cognac and sparkling vodka as a marketing tie-in with his long-awaited album, Detox. Drinks Americas, who is partnering with Dre and Aftermath/Interscope, described the spirit as a "unique new to market sparkling vodka" in an associated press release.

Since getting attacked and robbed of his chain in Detroit last month, rapper Yung Berg has been quiet about the situation. He recently commented on the attack, though, in a YouTube interview with RealTalkNY, but didn't get into any specifics, brushing it off as "it is what it is."
After much speculation, Interscope records have finally confirmed that a new Eminem album is in fact under way and may very well be in stores before the end of the year.

50 Cent whose in the UK promoting his new movie Righteous Kill was asked by BBC’s 1xtra if he would be performing at any international festivals similar to how Jay Zdid the Glastonbury Music Festival. In true Fifty fashion he big’d himself and Eminem up and took a slight at a big name rapper, this time Jay Z. Here’s what he said,

After performing at Sunday’s VMAs, Lupe Fiasco spoke to Rap-Up.com about his third and possibly final studio album, L.U.P.END., due in stores by the end of 2009."Gutta" in stores September 23rd! That's the release date. The single did great, and is still doing great. I just dropped my second single, "Ride," featuring Trey Songz. We just shot the video -- Be on the lookout for that.
In addition to The Runners, who else did you work with on the project?
I got Cool & Dre, The Inkredibles, Danja, Drummaboy, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Jackpot, Gold Ru$h. And, I'm 100 percent involved in the studio process -- You have to be to make hits.
What is your "personal" favorite track on the record?
I love all my records. I got a record called "Gutta," featuring Trick Daddy, which is crazy -- Also, a joint called "Can't Stop" with Akon.
How long have you been rapping?
I been rapping for about 10 years. I took it real serious about 5 years ago. I was always interested when I was a little kid. I use to always rap to myself. During high school -- I just knew it was what I wanted to do. It was my calling. I was destined for this.
Tell me where your moniker, Ace Hood, originated from...
Ace means one. I feel I'm an army of myself. I always had the name Ace -- Just added Hood to it, [because] that's who I make my music for.
How did your deal with DJ Khaled's new label, We The Best Music (Island/Def Jam), come about?
Me and my manager went to WEDR 99 Jamz, Khaled's radio station, to talk to him about performing at his b-day bash. I had a package with my demo. It ended up turning into me signing to We The Best Music.
What do you think it was that Khaled saw in you that made him want you as the first act for We The Best Music?
I create music for the streets. My music has lot of energy. If you ever go to one of my shows, you'll see what I'm talking about.
With all that's going on in the industry these days, what's your recipe for success?
Hits! At the end of the day, that's what speaks for you and determines longevity. Good music! Hit records!
What else do you intend to get involved with, once your music career is established?
I want to open a couple restaurants, and get some movie roles. I want to do it all -- endorsements, etc.

IT'S FINALLY COMING!!! hopefully...
Now this is 100% true, This is an official statement Joe Budden himself made on his forum.
Weeks after it was first announced that Juelz Santana has been released from his obligations to Diplomats Records, the rapper is speaking candidly about the details behind the split.
Recent Activision acquisition FreeStyleGames is hard at work on DJ Hero a music rhythm game that will let gamers scratch to the beat of popular mash-ups with a laptop turntable peripheral, informed sources tell us today. The game, which has been in development for nearly two years, is expected to hit shelves next summer and will likely include the ability to use Guitar Hero guitars for versus mode face-offs.
The controller, key to the game's success, has been through nearly a half-dozen iterations.
In the latest form, the device looks a lot like a simplified DJ Deck. There is a platter for scratching which will act like the strum toggle on a Guitar Hero guitar. Above the platter are three buttons for sampling. The controller also includes a cross fader and a sound effects dial which will act like the whammy bar in Guitar Hero.
Instead of flowing the musical notes down a guitar neck, DJ Hero will flow the music down and around a virtual record in a half arc. Either left top to middle bottom if you are left handed, or right top to middle bottom if you are right handed.
To play you will have to either hold a sample button and scratch, just hold a button or just scratch as the neon icons flow around the virtual vinyl.
Currently the wireless controller has grooves molded into the bottom so it will sit comfortably in a player's lap, though the team is also looking into legs for the deck so gamers can play while standing up.
The game in its current form features all mash-ups, think Beyonce Vs Jimi Hendrix, 50 cent Vs Beastie Boys. If they can nail the interface and get licensing for the music this could be a mammoth hit. Then again I love mash-ups.
Sounds like a good idea, more details later.

"We back in the lab!!!" he wrote. "I'm cool with the paparazzi. This guy wasn't cool. I gotta work now... I'll rant later!"
TMZ reported that he is now in Hawaii, where his blog post implies he is back to work on his upcoming album which is set to be released December 16.
The rapper also seems to be back to work on his blog. By the time the update was put on his blog early Friday (September 12), he had already put up 12 posts about various subjects, including the hotness of "Clueless" star Stacey Dash and the coolness of the new Interview magazine cover, featuring supermodel Kate Moss.
On Thursday afternoon, West and his road manager, Don Crowley, were released from the Los Angeles Police Department's Pacific Division on $20,000 bail following their arrests that morning. Both men were charged with felony vandalism, stemming from an incident at LAX that involved members of the paparazzi, according to a spokesperson for the airport's public-relations office.
According to police, West and Crowley were waiting for a flight to Honolulu when they were met by a photographer and videographer, who started taking their photos. An altercation ensued, and the cameras of both paparazzi were damaged by West and Crowley.
One thing I just noticed after watching that fight video was when Kanye grabbed the camera his manager then took it from Kanye saying " I got it, I Took It". His manager then smashed the camera, not Kanye so the manager will most likely take the bullet for Mr. West.
Further developments are emerging from Kanye's arrest yesterday for felony vandalism for breaking a paparazzi's camera at L.A.X. in Los Angeles yesterday morning. It seems that Kanye might not have to face felony charges because the piece of equipment he broke, the lighting unit, is only valued at $100. However, his road manager Don Crowley may not be so lucky because he's actually responsible for breaking both cameras, one valued at $1,500 and the other $7,000."Law enforcement sources told TMZ, at the time of the arrest, Kanye could be charged with felony vandalism. But here's what we know. The still camera that was broken is a Canon 40D -- retail price $1429.96. In California, someone who criminally damages property worth more than $400 can be prosecuted for felony vandalism.
But here's the rub: look closely at the video. Kanye and the bodyguard wrestle the camera away from the photog, but the bodyguard ends up with the camera ... Kanye is holding the light unit. We did some checking and found the light unit is only worth around $100, so here's the irony -- the bodyguard could be processed for a felony, but not Kanye.
BTW -- It was the bodyguard, not Kanye that broke our cam (retail value: $7000).
If Kanye is prosecuted at all, it's likely it would be for a misdemeanor. But prosecuting a celebrity where the victim is a paparazzo -- good luck, Mr. City Attorney.'"
Gucci Mane has been ordered to serve a year in jail for violating probation stemming from an assault conviction for hitting a promoter in the head with a pool cue three years ago in Atlanta.
A recent Los Angeles Times article has created widespread talk of Ludacris’ impending retirement from Hip-Hop in pursuit of Hollywood.

"Man, I really appreciate that people appreciate what I do, but I don't like that type of pressure," Andre 3000 said to MTV recently.
"I hate it, to be honest... I cannot save no whole rap game," Dre continued. "I mean, the rap game has to save itself. Everybody's saving it. People like Lil Wayne is saving it. He's bringing energy to it. You cannot put that all on one man, especially me. I write a verse every year. You can't do me like that."
Andre says that his greatest motivation is the people who say "it" can't be done. He flashed back to the beginnings of OutKast's mainstream success in the early 90s when he says he faced a lot of opposition.
"I work best when people doubt me. Our whole OutKast career has been built on people doubting us. [Fans] up North hated on us from the get-go," he said. "We wouldn't be OutKast if people didn't understand what people would call weird. You know none of that would've happened."
"If you see me, tell me I'm wack. That's the best thing you can do for me. You know, if you want a greater album, say that. Say that!"
What do you want your fans to take away from Black Mask Black Gloves?I mean, I want niggas to feel like I’m the realest nigga doing it. I’m the most underrated. I’m the most talented rapper who didn’t get his chance to shine yet. I definitely feel that. Everybody has their time. It’s definitely Lil’ Wayne’s time to shine. I feel like it’s my time also. When they listen to this they’re going to feel like why aren’t I on a larger scale. Why is he not on the same level as a Rick Ross or a Jeezy? Why is he not on that same playing field?
Why aren’t you?
I feel like people have been holding me back. I feel there's certain people around me and powers that be and people in Diplomats business that don’t respect my talent. I don’t know what it is. When you’re dealing with people you have egos and pride and they’re independent too and it’s hard for them to put you before them even if it’s going to benefit them. That’s how much the pride and the ego take over. I’m on my Malcolm X shit, man, as of right now. I had to separate myself from all parties. It’s Hell Rell the Top Gunna. I’m a free agent. Anyone that wants to holla at me with the paperwork, I have no ties with anybody. That’s what it is. I feel I can only go as far as I want myself to go. That’s what it is.
It’s all love but at the end of the day there’s no business relationship. It’s all love with Dipset but I don’t have no contracts or ties to Cam’ron or Jim. If there’s a better situation out there for me, I’m looking for it and that’s what I’m working towards. I’m about to launch my own website. I’m about to go into the digital world. At the end of the day the digital world is taking over anyway. I don’t really need anybody. The labels are going to need me in six months after I show them what I can do in the digital work. It’s all about the digital world right now, man, and I’m about to fuck the game up.
Can you reach a wider fanbase with your next album? Yeah because at the end of the day, this project solidifies me as an artist. I put out street music and I put out music for the masses all across the world that’s going through the same shit that I’m going through. Right now the economy is fucked up and it’s sad to say that when the economy is fucked up, people want to get high and listen to music and relate to somebody who’s going through what they’re going through. Unfortunately I feel this more than most motherfuckers around the world and they feel my pain. I’m still bothered by what I write in my music. It’s not like I’m sitting here with a bunch of chains and big cars and girls. I stepped out of that person. Whatever swagger I was throwing around, that’s not who I am when I’m in the booth and fortunately that person that you hear in the booth, niggas can relate to him and they can relate to that music and they can relate to that struggle, that pain. They can hear it in my voice. At the end of the day, look on YouTube. It’s a viral video and look at how many hits I got. The numbers don’t lie. Half a million hits on YouTube. That’s a lot of people. You try putting 300,000 people in a room. Are you telling me 300,000 people wanted to see what I was talking about? That’s a big following, man. So at the end of the day, the numbers ain’t lying, man. It’s a different world. I just gotta get with the program and the numbers ain’t lying, man. I gotta let them see. Are you still focused on acting today? I’m definitely focused on the acting. I’m actually trying to get with an agent now to get squared away. But as far as me doing my own production, I got Hell’s Vision so I’m putting out a lot of independent films of my own shit. You know what I mean? As far as directing and shit like that. The last time we spoke you were in the process of opening a restaurant called Rugar’s Ribshack. Is that still going to happen? Yeah, all that. Everything’s still in motion, man. Everything that I was talking about is still in motion, man. It ain’t changing. We’ve just got to figure everything out and blast off. But I couldn’t leave the streets. They needed that Black Mask Black Gloves. I can’t say I don’t have a following. The industry knows I got a following. Show me love and go to my website and look at what I’m doing and buy my music. They gotta show that love. What’s the next move for Hell Rell? My next album is definitely in the making. I’m like four or five songs deep in it already. It’s in the baby stages because I’m running around. I got a gang of songs, man. I got a gang of songs in my computer. I’m just trying to pick out the hottest that I feel that are dope for the project. So I’m taking my time with the music. Read the whole interview where he speaks on acting, his rib shack, dipset, and more HERE Damn, but I really don't blame Hell Rell or S.A.S. Now Dipset is just a name/brand and I guess Rell just felt like people weren't giving him a chance because he's in Dipset. But he did do the right move, Dipset is over.

When asked how the collaboration came about, Term stated "Around the time when I released "Watch How It Go Down," Bun B reached out to Premier and expressed interest in working with me." I ended up hangin with Bun at his birthday party in Houston and me preem & bun cooked up this track for my album - "How We Rock."We're shooting a video shortly, look for it!"
Termanology will be releasing his debut LP, Politics As Usual, on September 30th, 2008 via ST. Records/Nature Sounds.

Termanology Album Politics's As Usual coming soon!

For the third consecutive time, Katt Williams will be stroking hip-hop's funny bone as the host of this year's BET Hip Hop Awards later this fall.
At last night’s Common show, Enigmatik and I were talking about how silly it is that Common intends to release an album titled Invincinble Summer in the November, no less. If Comm had dropped Invincible Summer in June as previously scheduled, the title would’ve made a lot of sense. But no, he was too busy filming a movie to release any music. Well, guess what? We’ve now entered the fall season. Apparently, Common realized this as well and suddenly changed his album title from Invincible Summer to *gasp* Universal Mind Control. “Pharrell produced the entire Universal Mind Control album,” said Common at the concert. So there you have it, Universal Mind Control arrives this November.
Find out when Kanye West returns to hip hop! So, an EXTREMELY reliable source (Young Legend, GOOD LOOKS!) has just revealed to me that the title of Kanye’s 4th solo Lp is, 808’s & Heartbreak and it’s arriving December 16th.
Earlier this year, Kidz In The Hall released their first single and video, “Drivin’ Down the Block,” which crept all the way up to #6 on TRL’s countown, breaking ground and leading the way for a generation of new, young, independent hip hop artists. The video was also in heavy rotation on MTV Jams and MTV2 and the group was part of MTV’s exclusive “Discover & Download” program. Both “Drivin Down The Block” and “Love Hangover” were directed by Ethan Lader.
Currently the group is preparing for a Fall US tour after just completing Hip Hop’s biggest summer festival tour, Rock The Bells.
Go get that Kidz In The Hall CD if you haven't already. Thanks Matt C.
In the wake of a recent incident in their hometown of London, rap duo S.A.S. is severing ties with Juelz Santana, effectively ending their professional relationship with the Dip Set, which they left a year ago.
Lupe Fiasco reached a large audience with his 2007 hit "Superstar." The song was a chart-topping radio success, as well as a nomination for last night's MTV Music Awards
Sixshot.Com: Okay so they changed up your situation at Def Jam. Is it much better now?

So I received this in my email today and to be totally honest I've never heard of this guy Marky but after quickly checking out this tape I can tell you you should really download this and give him a shot, nice hip hop right here, straight from DC. For a sample visit his Myspace Here.
In less than 24 hours time, Lil Wayne went from performing in front of a screaming crowd, to standing in front of a Manhattan judge.
You know T.I. has a mean streak and I heard that it almost bubbled over this weekend. Now, I heard that Chris Brow had somehow “crashed” the rehearsal session with T.I and Rihanna for that new T.I. song. I can’t remember the name and I am being lazy. But, I heard the situation was tense, because Chris was interloping.
Rappers retiring are nothing new to the industry. From Too Short and Master P to Jay-Z and The Game, rappers have been threatening to retire for years.
SOHH recently chopped it up with the self-proclaimed "Grand Hustle Muscle," Alfamega, to talk about his upcoming debut, trying to be as big as his label head T.I. and his plans to record a joint album with Busta Rhymes.Alfamega grew up in an Atlanta housing project and by age nine, he already found himself caught up in a life of crime. Though rap was always a hobby, Alfa didn’t begin to hone his craft until he was sentenced to seven years in jail.
Within weeks of being released the rapper landed a deal with Universal Records and when that deal dissolved, his childhood friend T.I. was there to embrace him.
“I got with Tip, we did a handshake deal, never signed no contracts or nothing,” Alfamega explains. T.I. eventually helped the rapper secure a deal with Capitol Records through his own label, Grand Hustle.
“The Capitol deal came about because me and him had a discussion about me being as big as he is and it wouldn’t be feasible to either one of us to go through Atlantic.”
Alfamega thinks his chances of reaching T.I. status are pretty good.
“It’s strongly possible,” he said. “It’s just getting the music and the material out there to the people right and letting the people know my story.” Alfa will get to tell his story on his debut album I Am Alfamega this fall.
With tracks from Nitty and Drumma Boy, Alfa hopes to touch people with his lyrics.
“To me the biggest song on my album is ‘Imagine’” he said. “Cause it’s the most touching song to me. I wrote it when I was in prison. Basically [it’s about] the pain and everyday stress I went through while I was locked up and the stuff I saw and the stuff that people who are still incarcerated are going through both men and women.”
In addition to preparing his debut album, Alfamega recently starred in the Daz Dillinger produced film, Make It Rain, and is also eyeing a collaborative album with Busta Rhymes.
Alfamega says when fans saw the chemistry that he and Busta had on T.I.’s song “Hurt,” they urged the two rappers to record more records.
“The streets really brought it up,” Alfa explains. “After "Hurt" they was saying it because they was like they never seen anybody who can really keep up with the energy with Busta on stage. A lot of people was telling him that and a lot of people was telling me that so we decided to give the people what they want.”
In the meantime, fans can hear Busta on Alfa’s new album, which will also features guest appearances by T.I., Young Dro, 8Ball & MJG, Bun B,Pimp C and LeToya Luckett.
I Am Alfamega hits stores on October 14th.
If T-Pain had any say, his good friend Lil Wayne would have an Olympic event all his own: The Weezy F. 500-meter hurdles, perhaps.

LOL, "that stupid bitch don't know shit about teen choice!"
50 Cent digs Lil Wayne, but he can’t help but notice the similarities between Weezy’s summer smash “Lollipop” and his own 2005 hit “Candy Shop.” “‘Lollipop’” is ‘lick lick lick lick it like a lollipop,’” 50 told Rolling Stone, singing the verse to prove his point. “And ‘Candy Shop’ is ‘I’ll take you to the Candy Shop/ I’ll let you lick the lollipop.’”Rip-off or not, 50 is no longer spinning Wayne’s track — or any other rappers’, for that matter. “”I’m not really listening to anyone else’s records,” he says, adding that his new album, Before I Self-Destruct, will drop by the end of the year. “Now I’m in another space where I gotta make what I’m excited about.”
50 is mum on the details of his new disc — the last on his contract with Interscope Records — but he promises to shake things up. “[Other rappers] can take what I’ve done for the last five years and do their version of it and be successful with momentum,” he says. “Meanwhile, I have to reinvent the wheel.”
50 Cent's new album, "Before I Self Destruct," will be the followup to the "Curtis" album but was actually recorded before his last album.
50 Cent on why he released "Curtis" instead of "Before I Self Destruct":
"Some people think I changed the title of my album from 'Before I Self Destruct' to 'Curtis', but what I did was, I changed albums. I had Before I Self Destruct, I recorded twelve songs under that actual topic, and then I created the material that is under Curtis, and I felt like this album should come out right now and Before I Self Destruct is gonna be my follow-up record, so I'm probably like three or four records away from completing my next album at this point. And I signed a five-album deal with Interscope, so this Curtis is my third album, and my final studio recording album because the fifth album in my recording contract is a greatest hits album, so technically, I'm about three songs away from completing my music career."
50 Cent described the album as "darker" and more "aggressive" than his previous album and stated, "hands down, [it] will be the best record of that time period".
Speaking about his new album, 50 says "should not expect to see guest appearances like you saw on Curtis". He also described Before I Self Destruct as an entirely different concept, which will setup "the next batch of records" in his career.
So far producers Akon, Timbaland, J.R. Rotem, and Play-N-Skillz have confirmed working on "Before I Self Destruct".
Can 50 bounce back after the failure he had with the G-Unit album?

Great futures spawn from humble beginnings. D'Angelo LaGrone was born in Memphis on August 3rd, 1988. Raised in the southside of Chicago since he was two, he was introduced to many styles of music from his family. Indie rock, reggae, gospel, trance, techno, ska, any other genre's well out of the average 3-year old's range. Around 6 was when he found hip-hop himself.

In an interview with Billboard, the R&B singer said, "When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, 'Why can't I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there's one magazine that I'd want to be on the cover of, it's Vibe,' " the singer explained. "Their response was they don't have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they've had on the cover was Eminem."Now the Editor-In-Chief of Vibe Magazine, Danyel Smith, released a statement regarding Thicke's comments.
"We have a great deal of respect for Robin Thicke and his music, and we remain flattered by his desire to be on a Vibe cover," Smith explained. "A Vibe cover is a huge milestone in any artist's career - recent cover stars include Young Jeezy, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Usher, Senator Barack Obama, Eminem, Lil Wayne, and Robert De Niro, to say nothing of our 15-year history. We wish Thicke the best, and we're glad he discusses his thoughts on race and R&B in the new October 2008 issue of Vibe."
Brand also broke the news that Kanye West— yes, the same man who swore off all MTV-related events after last year's VMAs — will be closing the show this year with a super-sized performance of his own. After descending on a rickety metal ladder — at one point, his microphone tumbled out of his back pocket and landed on the street below — the rapper strode up next to Brand and Aguilera, posed for some photos and then broke the news that he, too, would be debuting a new song from Paper Trail on the big show, this one a duet with none other than .
"The people can expect action-packed pandemonium from top to bottom," he said, before turning to Brand and adding, "Those are some impressive pants you've got there. Are they denim? I thought they were spray-on aerosol."
Damn Mr. West takes another L, anyone remember his tantrum last year backstage at the MTV Music Awards lol.

Not only is the Atlanta rapper planning to release his highly anticipated sixth major release, Theater of the Mind, on Disturbing Tha Peace/Def Jam (October 21), but Luda will also co-star in the upcoming films Max Payne (October 17) and RocknRolla (October 31), according to Billboard.com.

The promoter of R. Kelly's tours has been ordered to pay rapper Ne-Yo more than $700,000 for allegedly breaching a contract regarding a series of concerts featuring the entertainers.Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, alleged in a lawsuit filed Dec. 31 that Georgia-based Rowe Entertainment Inc. fired him after two shows as the opening act for Kelly's tour last year.
The company was unhappy that the audience and critics liked the plaintiff's performance more than they did that of the R&B singer Kelly, the suit maintained
On Wednesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Malcolm Mackey signed a $700,320 default judgment against Rowe Entertainment for failing to respond to the lawsuit.
Los Angeles-based Compound Touring, which provides the services of Smith for concert tours, also was a plaintiff in the case. The suit maintained Smith was to be paid $785,000 for 25 shows opening for Kelly's "Double-Up Tour," which began Nov. 14, and that he only received a small portion of that fee.
Kelly was not a defendant in the case. A statement released on behalf of Kelly shortly after the suit was filed said he had nothing to do with Smith being dropped from the tour and that it was the promoter's decision.
Smith, 25, was allowed to perform during the Nov. 14 and 15 tour dates, then was fired before the scheduled Nov. 19 show, according to the suit.
This was brought up a while ago but i guess it just got moving recently
With rumors swirling online that Dipset member Juelz Santana was robbed overseas during a recent trip to London, the New York rapper released a statement to the media to refute the false information.

WORDOFSOUTH.COM: We’re going to get into Pimp C and Houston in a little bit. I want to ask a few more questions regarding “Mixtape Messiah 4” as it is the focus right now. Who do you feel this new installment in the series holds up against the other three? Chamillionaire: I definitely think “Mixtape Messiah 1” was the best; that’s just me being honest. When it came out, it was such a shock value in it that people were just eating it up and at that time I was more of an underdog than I am now. Right now I am not as much as an underdog, people know I’ve had success. But back then, there were a lot of underground fans that were rooting for me; it was big. When that came out, it just started flying everywhere; everybody was talking about it everywhere I was going. That was like a critical time in Texas underground history. Me and Mike Jones kind of had a problem but that will always be kind of legendary or classic to people out here but I’ve kind of moved passed that.
WORDOFSOUTH.COM: All of a sudden you had a bunch of new dances out there that were very similar to Soulja Boy and what he was doing.
Chamillionaire: And then you start seeing overkill. Back in the days, everybody tried to get one up on each other and try to think of something more creative. You had Slick Rick who had his own style, you had the Wu-Tang who had their own style, you had UGK who had their own style and now it’s kind of like everybody is copying the same thing a little bit.WORDOFSOUTH.COM: How would you say this mixtape series has helped you reach this point in your career?
Chamillionaire: It’s definitely kept me a good core audience. The core audience kind of eats this stuff up. I need those fans. You can get a hit single and those fans kind of come with each single – if you have another hit single, they’ll come back. It’s the core fans that stick with you whether you’re on the radio or not. These are people that go to the stores and buy the mixtapes that you put out and actually argue with people online about you being the best – I need those fans so I try to feed them.
WORDOFSOUTH.COM: So we’re getting “Mixtape Messiah 5” in November?
Chamillionaire: Yeah “Mixtape Messiah 5” will drop in November before the album. You know I am going to have a lot of information on there that people need to know. It’s got some stuff that I might have let off of this one (Mixtape Messiah 4). I am going to kind of touch up a little bit and say it in a better way; put it out on Mixtape number five and it will be a big promotion for the album.
