"Gutta" in stores September 23rd! That's the release date. The single did great, and is still doing great. I just dropped my second single, "Ride," featuring Trey Songz. We just shot the video -- Be on the lookout for that.
In addition to The Runners, who else did you work with on the project?
I got Cool & Dre, The Inkredibles, Danja, Drummaboy, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Jackpot, Gold Ru$h. And, I'm 100 percent involved in the studio process -- You have to be to make hits.
What is your "personal" favorite track on the record?
I love all my records. I got a record called "Gutta," featuring Trick Daddy, which is crazy -- Also, a joint called "Can't Stop" with Akon.
How long have you been rapping?
I been rapping for about 10 years. I took it real serious about 5 years ago. I was always interested when I was a little kid. I use to always rap to myself. During high school -- I just knew it was what I wanted to do. It was my calling. I was destined for this.
Tell me where your moniker, Ace Hood, originated from...
Ace means one. I feel I'm an army of myself. I always had the name Ace -- Just added Hood to it, [because] that's who I make my music for.
How did your deal with DJ Khaled's new label, We The Best Music (Island/Def Jam), come about?
Me and my manager went to WEDR 99 Jamz, Khaled's radio station, to talk to him about performing at his b-day bash. I had a package with my demo. It ended up turning into me signing to We The Best Music.
What do you think it was that Khaled saw in you that made him want you as the first act for We The Best Music?
I create music for the streets. My music has lot of energy. If you ever go to one of my shows, you'll see what I'm talking about.
With all that's going on in the industry these days, what's your recipe for success?
Hits! At the end of the day, that's what speaks for you and determines longevity. Good music! Hit records!
What else do you intend to get involved with, once your music career is established?
I want to open a couple restaurants, and get some movie roles. I want to do it all -- endorsements, etc.
