Wale & Lady Gaga Collab

Saw this over at The Rap-Up, Big things for Wale in 2009. P.S. anyone with that hat feel free to send one over in 7 3/8 :)

2009 is looking bright for newcomer Wale. The Washington, D.C. native has already recorded several songs with production duo Cool & Dre and recently hooked up with one unlikely artist for his debut album.

Last weekend, the “rapper with a conscience” hit a New York studio with pop star Lady GaGa for an unspecified collaboration. The “Nike Boots” MC and “Just Dance” songstress are label mates at Interscope Records.

While details of their recording were not available, the 24-year-old did tell Rap-Up.com, “I just try to have a lot of subject and a lot of content in the music. I feel like one of the most important things is to have content and to truly be saying something.”

As the year 2008 is coming to a close I'd like to take the time and show my appreciation for the great music that has dropped, this is strictly the albums that I've enjoyed the most over the past year (that I can remember off the top of my head). So please don't eat me up because your favorite rapper is not on the list. Enjoy and check them out if you haven't.

I finally gave into the hype and downloaded my first CH tape and was very surprised, this was my favorite CD of the year.
Best Songs: Sat(t)elite, Music, Writing In The Sky, Loser, & I'll Be Around.

-------------------------------------------------------

Joe Budden - Mood Muzik 3: The Album
I had to throw this in there even though the mixtape came out in 2007, amazing CD beginning to end, if you haven't heard this CD go get it today.
Best Songs: All of Me, Un4Given, Secrets, Hiatus, & Family Reunion.

-------------------------------------------------------

Royce Da 5'9" - The Revival
This was my first Royce CD I heard and he quickly became one of my favorites, this CD was all unreleased songs that quietly leaked on the net.

Police + Beam Gun = Pain Beam

FULL Story @ NewScientist

The research arm of the US Department of Justice is working on two portable non-lethal weapons that inflict pain from a distance using beams of laser light or microwaves, with the intention of putting them into the hands of police to subdue suspects.

The two devices under development by the civilian National Institute of Justice both build on knowledge gained from the Pentagon's controversial Active Denial System (ADS) - first demonstrated in public last year, which uses a 2-metre beam of short microwaves to heat up the outer layer of a person's skin and cause pain.

The truly portable mini-ADS could prove the more useful, as microwaves penetrate clothing better than the infra-red beam, which is most effective on exposed skin. Although the spokesman says: "In LEC [Law Enforcement and Corrections] use there is always a little bit of skin to target."

LOL this is ridiculous, can't wait to hear a rapper rap about getting hit by one of these babies.

Swizz Beats Responds To Eminem Saying "There Is No Stan 2"

Via AceShowBiz

Swizz Beatz steps up saying that the song, he has submitted to Eminem for the Detroit rapper's upcoming album "Relapse", is not "Stan Part 2". He says, "That's not the title of the song."

Swizz, furthermore, claims that there isn't such song for the album. He clarifies, "That's what I said the song felt like. We didn't sit down and agree that this was the title ... I'm not in the studio [with him] ... Everything that we're doing is over Pro-Tools."

Previously, Swizz Beatz told MTV that he worked on so-called single "Stan Part 2" to follow up Eminem's Dido-featuring single "Stan".

Eminem denied his statement saying, "There isn't a 'Stan 2', and there won't be. Stan drove his car off a bridge and I'm not writing a song as Stan's ghost. That would just be really corny."

NASA Offering Reward For Lost Rubber Ducks

If your like me and dead broke from the holiday shopping you might wanna hit the local beach and start looking for...Rubber ducks? Full story @ Gizmodo
If you happen to spot a rubber duckie floating in the ocean, NASA would really appreciate it if you give them a call. They're missing about 90 of them and want them back.

The rubber duckies were tossed into a hole in Greenland's ice three months ago as a way to track how the polar icecap is melting. So far, however, they haven't seen signs of any of them. So now they're hoping that sailors, fisherman and cruise passengers will keep their eyes peeled for them. For the first one that's recovered, NASA is offering up a measly $100 reward. But hey, that's $100 more than you had before, you crusty old arctic fisherman. And it's for science.

DJ Drama Speaks On New Album, New Single

In preparation for the sequel to the original Gangsta Grillz Album DJ Drama & company release the first official single "Day Dreaming" feat. Akon, Snoop Dog, & T.I.

"It's a no-brainer, to me, the record is hot and the feedback was great, so I went with it. My last album, I had good records, and that album was a success to me despite very little video and airplay. I don't want to dramatize it too much, no pun intended, But the album is just bangers, something that can rock from beginning to end."

I think the song is alright, nothing special.

Killer Of Philant Johnson Sentenced To 66 Years

Via HHDX

According to several reports, Hosea Thomas, the man responsible for the death of Atlanta rapper T.I.'s friend Philant "Big Phil" Johnson, has been sentenced to 66 years in prison.

Thomas was found guilty of felonious assault and illegal possession of a firearm after a felony conviction late last month and received his sentencing today.

"Thomas gave Philant Johnson a death sentence, and his family—he gave them a death sentence as well," Judge Ralph Winkler explained during sentencing. "All of his crimes have been cowardly and senseless...You could say he's the poster boy for gun violence in Cincinnati."

In 2006, Thomas and his brother Padron Thomas opened fire on T.I. and his entourage on Highway I-75, after the two groups had attended a party at Club Ritz in Cincinnati, Ohio.

According to witnesses, the two brothers became angry when they were banned from the VIP section. A scuffle later ensued, and the brothers became even more angry when one of them was hit over the head with a bottle. They then followed T.I. and his entourage as they left the club.

Once on the highway, Hosea Thomas began to shoot at the two vans carrying T.I.'s entourage. Once shots ceased, Johnson had been shot in the head and three others were wounded.

As a witness for the trial, T.I. was able to explain to prosecutors what events led to the shooting. Ironically, Padron Thomas also served as a key witness for the prosecution.

Hosea Thomas will become eligible for release in 2074 at the age of 100.

ItsHipHop Featured Artist: Fuze

I got another feature artist for ya'll to look out for, he goes by the name Fuze, be sure to check him out. Picture requested by Fuze BTW...

Born and raised in the outskirts of Atlanta, Fuze (formally known as Future The Time Traveler) has had an interesting relationship with Hip Hop. Growing up in home where hiphop music is and still is to this day frowned upon and dismissed as trash, Fuze was forced to bury any lurking talents and aspirations under a veil of discontent with the musical art form and way of life. That was until he finally found the outlet and inspiration to spark his inner fire at the Atlanta A3C concert in 2008.

He performed a short rap entitled "proof" for XXL freshman artist Blu and received well deserved co-signing from the west coast MC. So much so that the next day Blu himself sent him a beat to rip apart via email.

Growing up in the lower-middle class suburbs surrounded by ghettos gave Fuze an striking duality that is prevalent in his music.Waking up in the morning riding, with his single-mother to school listening to national public radio and Sam Cooke only to hear the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Charles Hamilton and T.I at school has shaped his music into something that can only be described as unique.

One moment he could be placing hypnotic melodic rhyme scheme across the beat and effortlessly move into a twist mid-verse (a skill not common found amongst southern mc's). His simply complex lyrics have the ability to satisfy on the first listen but after many listens impress and feed the deeper sections of the mind with elaborate extended metaphors and ideas.

In short amount of months he has developed skills and abilities it takes many artist years to master. At 17, although still a little rough around the edges, Fuze is currently one of the most promising aspiring MC's to date.

Rumor: Christina Milian Dropped From Def Jam Thanks To Rihanna?

Was surfing the net and found some rumors about Cristina Milian being dropped from Def Jam (surprise..) Now I usually like to stay away from rumors but I'll make an exception for the slow day.

"It was a budget cut, I believe. Def Jam probably got rid of projects like mine to spend the money on Rihanna. She goes on expressing her feelings about the droppage.

"It was embarrassing, It was a week after my album So Amazin' got put out. I would be in my room a lot of the time crying by myself."

Milian is currently working on her next album "Dream In Color" that is set for a release in 2009.

ItsHipHop Presents: Exclusive Interview With Beyond Belief

Just recently ItsHipHop got a chance to chop it up with featured artist Beyond Belief. In this interview we touch on his new album, mixtape, Make Noise!!! & more. ENJOY

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: So for everyone out there who doesn't know, who are you, and where you from?

Beyond Belief: My name is Beyond Belief, but most people call me Bobby J...I'm a new artist on producer Kwame's (Lloyd Banks "On Fire", Will Smith "Switch" Day 26 "Come With Me" , Keyshia Cole "No other") Indy Label "Make Noise!!!". I'm originally from Rockaway, Queens but am currently down in Miami for school. The first single off my forthcoming debut album entitled What About Bob? is "Don't Touch" which can be purchased now on iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, and Amazon.com! People can also check the video for it on Youtube and Myspace.com/beyondbeliefmusic!

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: We'll get to your album later on but, Beyond Belief Is kind of an interesting name, where did it come from?

Beyond Belief: Beyond belief actually comes from the acronym bob, which stands for beyond ordinary belief... But since there already is a B.o.B. I just used the beyond belief part. It's basically a metaphor for being beyond the everyday belief that a rapper is supposed to fit a particular mold or only rap about certain things. Most people still call me bobby though.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: That's pretty cool, moving on, your co-signed by a little producer known as Kwame, who has produced tracks for artists like Joe Budden, Lloyd Banks, LL Cool J & much more. How did you meet him and how did you feel when he made you his premier artist?

Beyond Belief: I met him when I was 14 through my friend Profit when I went to high school with who had already been working with him at the time. Being able to be mentored by somebody like Kwame, who’s been doing it for 20 years, is crazy. He has a unlimited knowledge of music and really showed me the steps to making the transformation from a rapper to an artist.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: Tell us about your music group "Make Noise", and how It came about.

Beyond Belief: Make Noise is Kwame's new Indie label. It basically started because me and Kwame wanted to put out our music on our own to have a direct relationship with the fans and not have our moves dictated by a label. We knew the only way for our vision to be executed right as far as music/videos were concerned, we had to do it on our own. As far as acts go its me and Jade Ewen, who is a incredible artist from the UK.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: I feel the rap game is over-saturated with the same image & persona, that it gets boring. What do you bring to the table and how do you stand out from the rest?

Beyond Belief: I feel like I'm not only bringing lyricism back to the forefront, but also an element of fun that’s been missing from hip-hop recently. I just try not to take everything so seriously and have a good time. In addition to that, I want to make quality records that can have both commercial and critical appeal; basically a crossover album that doesn't have the bullsh*t radio records fans are force-fed.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: I understand you have a mixtape and an album coming out next year, any exclusive news on them?

Beyond Belief: As far as the album and mixtape go, they are both finished. The mixtape will be out by the end of the month and will be available for download on Myspace.Com/BeyondBeliefMusic. The album is also finished and it is entirely produced by Kwame. The video for the first single "Don't Touch" is out now and the singles available for purchase on iTunes. We will be shooting a video for the second single "Work" soon and the album will be out on iTunes in late January.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: What can we expect from both of the projects?

Beyond Belief: The mixtapes will be all freestyles and a couple songs that won't make the album...The album will feature all new songs ranging from personal records to party records to straight up hip-hop lyrical records. So I really have something on there to satisfy everybody.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: So with a mixtape and album under your belt what do you plan to do in the year 2009?

Beyond Belief: You will see the dropping of my debut album entitled "What about Bob?", the video for my second single "Work", the launching of my new website BeyondBeliefOnline.Com. Also, as I stay recording fans can expect ample new material and possibly a second album by the end of the year. Also, be on the lookout for Kwame on the production tip, as he's currently got work on Keyshia Cole's new LP and Diddy's album.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: When you wake up every morning, what inspires you to write?

Beyond Belief: A hot beat!! Other than that listening to rappers like Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, & Andre 3000 who take lyrics to the next level and trying to outdo them.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: Other than your own team what else do you listen too?

Beyond Belief: I listen to everything. I love The Talking Heads, James Brown, the Rolling Stones, Prince etc... In terms of hip hop it's the lyrical guys like Jay-Z, Eminem, Big Pun, Nas, Cee Lo, T.I. Ludacris, Andre 3000, Lupe Fiasco, and basically anybody who strives to be the best.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: Do you follow politics? How did you feel when Barack Obama won the election?

Beyond Belief: I don't follow politics but I think everyone can agree that Barack Obama winning was a historical moment.

ItsHipHop.Blogspot.Com: As we bring this interview to a close is there anything you want to say to all your fans out there?

Beyond Belief: Yes, cop the album when it drops in January!! And the single on iTunes... For all the fans out there add me or message me on MySpace. I try and stay in touch with all my fans and truly appreciate the support. Thank you!

There you have it folks, the next big thing out of Far Rock, Beyond Belief, be sure to check his music out on MySpace.Com/BeyondBeliefMusic & catch him on his FaceBook Fan Page. Also check out the Beyond Belief Feature Here.

50 Cent Breaks Down Scuffle With Floyd Mayweather

In a recent interview with ESPN 50 Cent revealed that he and Floyd "Money" Mayweather got in to a "little scrap" but everything is now cool.

"Yeah, we got into a little scrap, a little boxing match, well, it wasn't really much of a boxing match because he hit me in the back of my ear. He's so fast, he's just so fast. The thing about it is, everyone who is around him works for him. And for a second, he tried to talk to me like I was one of the people working for him. He tried to tell me what to do so I grabbed him. I snatched his little ass up then he hit me and was like 'What's wrong with you?' We were mad for a second, but then everything went back to normal."

He then explained on how the fight came about.

"He was going to do the match in WWE at Wrestlemania and he started telling everyone that I was going to be there. So everyone got all excited and started asking me if I was going to come, and I was like, 'If you're really getting $20 million for this, then give me some money.' He was sitting there with a million dollars cash in a bag, and he kept telling me he was going to get me money for appearing, but I was like 'No, give me some of that money right there.' He had one million dollars in the bag, it was physically right in front of me, so why should I have to wait to get paid? Just give me that money right there. He wasn't with it, and that's how it all started."

Lil' Wayne Sample Lawsuit Continues

Via Ace

Following the legal document filed last May over Lil Wayne allegedly taking an illegal sample from Karma-Ann Swanepoel's song "Once" for his single "I Feel Like Dying", lawyers for Swanepoel continue seeking for compensation. This time, they demand the rapper to turn in documents that would reveal the total income generated by his track.

In return to the request from Swanepoel's camp, Wayne's attorneys have filed papers asking judge to postpone the deadline for the demanding document and other material until Friday, December 19. It is still unclear whether the extension is yet to be granted.

Im no sample expert but the song was for a mixtape/promotional use which made no profit, so I don't see how it's a issue.

ItsHipHop Featured Artist: Tha Advakit

UPDATES BELOW FEATURE

Introducing one of my boys from HHU, Tha Advakit, expect to see more of him in 2009, and like all my featured artists this aint you average rapper. Check It!
Think about every negative stereotype that you've ever heard in regards to hip hop music. Now, imagine, what would a rapper be like, if he were the exact opposite of those stereotypes. He'd be a brilliant and intelligent lyricist who expressed himself with unique and thought provoking concept songs. He'd also be a positive and uplifting rapper, while at the same time displaying the harsh realities of the world. Oh, and he'd also be able to bar for bar with your favorite rapper.

An hip hop artist such as this didn't exist, until 2005 when 'Tha Advakit' picked up a mic. Born and raised in Chicago and currently residing in the south suburbs, 'Tha Advakit' has had the opportunity to view the world from two completely different perspectives. Because of his upbringing, 'Tha Advakit' is able to connect with a wider audience than most rappers. Whether they be rich, middle class, poor, black, white, brown or yellow, man or woman. An ARTIST moreso than a rapper, 'Tha Advakit' seeks to paint a vivid picture lyrically with every song he completes.

He describes himself as a activist/teacher with the skills of an exceptional emcee who seeks to encourage his listeners to think outside the box, while still remaining versatile behind the mic. At the fork in the road, 'Tha Advakit' was the artist that took the path no one else dared to, and his music is a testament to what he has experienced (and still is) while traveling along that road. Untitled (no Nas) mixtape coming soon...
